Roll your beeswax candle
1) Warm the sheet
Beeswax should feel soft like a fruit leather and bend without whitening or cracking. If it feels stiff / snaps / turns pale when bent: it’s too cold.
Hold it in your hands for 30–60 seconds to warm it.
2) Set your wick and “anchor” the first fold
Make sure the wick is straight and lined up at the edge you’ll start rolling from.
Roll 1 full rotation, keeping it even from end to end.
Roll “snug, not squeezed”
Too loose: you can see gaps, the wick wiggles, candle feels squishy/air pockets.
Too tight: the wax looks stressed, starts to crack, or you see whitening.
The right pressure:
You should be able to press the candle with a finger and feel it give a little, but it should still feel solid.
Keep your pressure even (don’t crush the center more than the ends.)
Press the roll down and forward as you go
2. Create your base shape
Choose your base shape - either a star, or a moon.
Roll out clay evenly - to about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch thickness.
Place star or moon stencil over your rolled out clay, and cut evenly around it.
Dip your finger in the water and smooth out any rough edges.
3. Create the holder for your candle
This time, roll your clay into a long rectangle, keeping the thickness the same as your star or moon.
Smooth it out first, then use the sharp clay cutting tool to clean up the edges. When you’re ready, gently wrap the clay around your candle to measure exactly the size you need.
Remove the candle, and use your fingers to gently seal the seam.
4. Attach the holder to the base
Lightly score the clay where it will connect, set the holder on the base, and use your finger to softly blend the two pieces into one.
You can use a little water - but remember to use it sparingly.
Seal or Let Dry
If you’d like a glossy look, use a paintbrush to seal your new candle holder! Sealing it will give it a glossy shine. If you leave it unsealed, it will have a matte look.
